Is there really a right or wrong way to do it? How do you know when it’s appropriate to show off your love for your significant other? If this sounds like a burden then you will certainly want to read on.
In many cultures around the world for the exchange of wedding rings marks the end of a marriage. Traditionally, marriage ceremonies mark the beginning of two families. The groom gives his bride-to-be a ring as proof that he is willing to wait for her to become his wife and to live together in a monogamous relationship. This is often done during the marriage ceremony itself, although this is not always the case. It may be exchanged prior to the wedding ceremony or, if the two families are signing prenuptial agreements then it is usually added to the list of things that will be pledged in the marriage ceremony.
When it comes to wearing engagement and wedding rings, it seems that the traditional way is to keep these rings in the same ring as the engagement ring. This allows the couple to display the symbolic connection with one another without having to worry about changing the shape or size of the rings. It has long been the custom for the groom to give his future bride a ring on their first wedding anniversary. This tradition began in ancient Egypt and was continued by several Middle Eastern countries. They would put the two wedding rings on the same finger, so that they would remember that their time together meant that they would remain lovers for life. Of course in modern times this isn’t always necessary and many couples choose to exchange their rings after their marriage.
It is also very common to wear the wedding band on the left hand separately from the engagement ring. While many cultures say that wearing the rings on the left hand is more comfortable, it has been suggested that there is no real reason why people should do this. Both rings being worn at the same time does have practical benefits, the most obvious of which is the fact that you won’t be able to take your wedding band off in order to use it on another finger. Wearing it on the left hand might make it difficult to write but the ring on the right hand is usually much easier to remove from your finger.
Many modern brides still wear their engagement and wedding rings together. It is not uncommon to see them both together on the wedding day itself. It can be quite romantic to watch the bride dance with her groom in their engagement ring and wedding rings. A well matched bridal set will also compliment the engagement ring perfectly and it has also been common for the bride to wear both the engagement and wedding rings when she is married.
Of course, it is perfectly acceptable to both wear their engagement and wedding rings at the same time. The choice is really up to you. The important thing is to choose a setting which makes you happy.
